Installing the V8 service

 About the V8 service

The V8 monitoring service  for Dynamics NAV/BC (also called the V8 service) is a Windows service that collects data about your Dynamics NAV/BC Server instances.

The monitoring service must be able to connect to:

  • the Dynamics NAV/BC Server instance you want to monitor
  • the V8 Vearch XE SQL database

 Installing the V8 service on a different computer

To install the V8 service on a different computer, you first need to install the V8 Search XE interface and server.

  1. On the computer where you want to host the V8 Search XE interface (not the V8 service), run the V8 Search XE installer.

  2. Follow the installer instructions.

  3. After finishing the installer, Extracting files from a ZIP folder V8NAVService.zip. The default installation directory for all-user installs is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Dynamics Project\V8SEAXE\".


     

  4. Copy your Extracting files from a ZIP folder V8NAVService.zip on the computer (your Dynamics NAV/BC Server instances) where you want to install the V8 service.


     

  5. There’s no installer; to install V8 service using the batch file "Install_Service_V8.bat".
    Adjust the path and the name of the V8 service to the Dynamics NAV/BC Server instance, because you want to monitor.


     

  6. Start the Install_Service_V8.bat as administrator.
    When you execute the command, you should receive a SUCCESS message if everything goes well.


     

  7. Important!  The start value of the V8 service must be changed to  manual.

 Installing the V8 service with PowerShell
  1. Open the powershell script "Create V8 windows service.ps1"

  2. Change the parameters in the script.


     

  3. 1. Servicename

  4. 2. Account Password

  5. 3. User account (with the right to start services!)

  6. 4. Installation path


 Installing the V8 job service on the same computer as the V8 Search XE Client
  1. On the computer where you want to host the V8 Search XE interface and V8 job service, use the Install_Service.bat file.

  2. There’s no installer; to install V8 job service using the batch file "Install_Service.bat".
    Adjust the path and the name of the V8 job service.


     

  3. Start the Install_Service.bat as administrator.
    When you execute the command, you should receive a SUCCESS message if everything goes well.


     

  4. From this point on, your new service will run whenever Windows starts. If you open the Windows Services interface (just click Start and type “Services”), you can find and configure the new service just like you would any other.

 Licensing

V8 service: Copy the files "license.xml" and "publicKey.xml (folder "V8 Service Version 7") from your e-mail to the installation directory.

V8 job service: Copy the files "license.xml" and "publicKey.xml (folder "V8 Search XE") from your e-mail to the installation directory.
